February 21, 2023 3 min read

When it comes to camping, few things are as satisfying as cooking over an open fire. There's just something about the smoky flavor and rustic experience that make campfire meals feel special. But cooking over a campfire can also be a challenge, especially if you're not used to it. That's why we've put together a list of easy campfire recipes that are perfect for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even dessert. So gather 'round the fire and get ready to eat!

Breakfast

  1. Campfire Omelets: Crack a couple of eggs into a small resealable bag along with your favorite omelet fillings (e.g. ham, cheese, mushrooms, peppers). Seal the bag and place it in a pot of boiling water over the fire. After about 10 minutes, your omelet will be cooked to perfection.

  2. French Toast: Dip slices of bread into a mixture of beaten eggs, milk, and cinnamon, then cook them in a greased skillet over the fire. Serve with syrup and fresh berries for a delicious breakfast.

  3. Breakfast Burritos: Wrap scrambled eggs, cooked bacon or sausage, cheese, and salsa in a tortilla and cook over the fire in a foil packet. Add any other desired toppings, such as avocado or diced tomatoes.

Lunch

  1. Grilled Cheese: Butter two slices of bread and place a slice of cheese between them. Cook the sandwich in a cast-iron skillet over the fire until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted.

  2. Foil Packet Nachos: Layer tortilla chips, canned chili, shredded cheese, and diced tomatoes in a foil packet and cook over the fire until the cheese is melted.

  3. Campfire Quesadillas: Spread refried beans on a tortilla, then add shredded cheese and any other desired toppings (e.g. cooked chicken, diced peppers). Fold the tortilla in half and cook in a greased skillet over the fire until the cheese is melted.

Dinner

  1. Campfire Chili: Brown ground beef in a cast-iron Dutch oven, then add canned diced tomatoes, kidney beans, chili powder, and any other desired seasonings. Let the chili simmer over the fire for a couple of hours, stirring occasionally. We love this dutch oven for cooking our meals.

  2. Foil Packet Hobo Dinners: Place ground beef or turkey, sliced potatoes, and chopped vegetables (e.g. carrots, onions, bell peppers) in a foil packet and cook over the fire until everything is tender.

  3. Grilled Chicken and Veggies: Marinate chicken breasts and vegetables (e.g. zucchini, bell peppers, mushrooms) in a mixture of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and seasonings. Grill over the fire until the chicken is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.

Dessert

  1. Campfire S'mores: Place a marshmallow on a skewer and roast it over the fire until it's golden brown. Sandwich the marshmallow between two graham crackers and a square of chocolate for a classic campfire dessert.

  2. Grilled Fruit Skewers: Thread chunks of pineapple, banana, and strawberries onto skewers and grill over the fire until the fruit is caramelized.

  3. Campfire Cinnamon Rolls: Wrap store-bought cinnamon rolls in foil and cook them over the fire until they're warm and gooey. Serve with cream cheese frosting for an extra-special treat.

With all this delicious food on offer, as a family, we love this enamel set that includes all the essentials for enjoying your favourite meal!

In conclusion, there are plenty of easy and delicious campfire recipes to enjoy while spending time in the great outdoors. Whether you're looking for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert options, there's something for everyone to enjoy. So fire up the flames and get ready to cook!
